Stavanger experience 2013 (Preperations for European champs)

Just returned back in Amsterdam after 1 week of training in Stavanger with the rest of the national team. The environment is so strong in Stavanger that the entire squad originates from Hafrsfjord squash club (Say it fast 10 times)

The European championship is only 3 weeks away and the boys asked me to join them for a bit to get some good training in. I love Stavanger and had a base there for 3 years, so I am not hard to ask. The week was spent playing a full day of doubles, and a lot of match training from 6am to 11pm some days. In between I got to meet a lot of old friends I have not seen for a very long time, and it was highly enjoyable.

It is also very positive to see both the junior group growing and the senior group progressing. If these can work a bit more together, there is still hope for the future of HSK that has dominated Norwegian squash for the last half decade

The norwegian no2 Kristian Solhaug is up at 0600 to play squash before work, The number 3 Ronny Aasbø play better than ever before and pushed me all the way, The number 4 Hans Olav Torgersen trains more than he has ever done and the dynamic duo Sindre Roaldsøy and Niclas Østerhus is steadily improving.

Great thanks to Bjørni/Rutti for their hospitality, dinners, gossiping and driving, and a great thanks to the Roaldsøy family that housed me for almost a week. They made my stay very pleasant and comfortable, and the highlight came under a discussion over squash and the Olympics when the daughter of 16 comments: "Squash is a sport, Golf is an interest" Made my weekend :D

Now all that remains is 3 weeks of full-focus-training before showtime at the Frans Otten stadium 1.-5. of May
